Penalty Shoot-out Heartbreak for our Senior Girls Soccer Team
On Wednesday the 9th we played Holy Family Newbridge in Newbridge. This was the 2nd round of the cup and kick-off was scheduled for 11:15am.
We started the game strongly and the girls had a couple of amazing chances on goal but were unlucky not to find the back of the net. We were controlling the play and putting flowing moves together, with Ella, Áine and Amy seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages. However, despite having the majority of possession and chances it was Newbridge who scored the opening goal just before half time.
This did not dampen the spirits or beliefs of the girls and in the second half we continued to play good football and press for an equaliser. The introduction of four subs, Aoife M, Lucy H, Lucy M, and Kayleigh, throughout the second half gave us an extra boost and finally our goal eventually came late in the second half. Mya got the ball on the right wing, gave it to Ella and she passed it across to Sheoladh who finished it, making it a draw. We had further chances to clinch the victory through Ella and Lucy M but we didn’t get the goal our plat deserved.
Extra time was the next step, which meant playing another 10 minutes aside. With momentum on our side, Kayleigh scored an unbelievable goal, finding the far corner of the goal from outside the penalty box. After this we controlled the ball, but following the concession of a free kick on the edge of our box, Newbridge this time equalised, despite the best efforts of Grace in the goal, who put her body on the line to stop a strong volley. The second half of extra time was a tightly contested half with no goals leading to penalties.
It was clear both sides were nervous taking penalties and unfortunately we lost 5-4 in the end. The referees player of the match for CPR was Kayleigh who made a significant difference when brought on .

School Golf
Thursday 24th October saw our second golf outing of the school year. Again the weather was kind to us, a fine warm and dry day but blustery. The boys found the wind conditions tough and the leaves underfoot a little bit of a problem when looking for golf balls. Thank you once again to Roscrea Golf Club for allowing us use of the course and to the bar and catering staff for looking after the boys with refreshments when they got in. Well done to all players and have a safe and enjoyable mid term break.

Fond Farewells
We have reached a milestone in our time here in Coláiste as our long serving caretaker, Mr. Monty Franks begins his retirement. Monty has served as caretaker here since the school opened in 1999. From caretaking duties, to badminton, to plumbing, decoration and IT, Monty could turn his hand to it all, an ardent Offaly supporter and a wonderful colleague to have. Both staff, students and management are sorry to see him go and wish him a long happy and adventure filled retirement. Thank you for everything Monty.

Presenting Monty with a hurley signed by all the staff
