U15 1/2 Hurling Blitz
Our U15 1/2 Hurlers took part in a very enjoyable Hurling Blitz in Borrisoleigh on Tuesday last. This was a new initiative organised by John O’Keeffe County Development Officer to cater for this age group. On the day, only four schools took part but each team got four thirty-minute games which was very worthwhile. Our first game was against Nenagh Vocational School and we got our first win. In the second game vs Thurles CBS our lads had to work hard but eventually got on top and won easily in the end. By the third game players were beginning to tire a little and this time we drew with St. Joseph’s Borrisoleigh. This qualified us for the A final where once again we faced Thurles CBS. After a great contest we lost out by the narrowest of margins and both teams tired noticeably during this game. This was a very successful day all told and gave our players a great chance to play together in a competitive setting which will be of great benefit going into next year. Panel- Mark Fanning, Roddy Teehan, Paul Costello, David Jones, Jack O’Brien (All Moneygall), Gearoid Murphy (Anacurra Co. Wicklow), William Abbott, Dillon Fitzgerald, Gary Sheppard (All Borris-in-Ossory), Danny Bergin (Ballyskenach-Killavilla), Aaron Loughnane, Stephen Carey, Liam Seacy (Capt), Fionn Ryan, Eoin Harte (All Roscrea), Cillian Ryan, Jack Bourke, Coley Cleary, Patrick Sammon, Killian Sampson, Matthew Fogarty (Shinrone).
U17 Fitzgerald Cup Semi-Final
Having got a bye to the Semi-Final we faced a strong Borrisoleigh side who had already had a good win over Abbey CBS Tipperary Town. Roscrea had a couple of practice games played and after a slow start against St. Josephs on a splendid day in Templemore we got ourselves into the game with some excellent play by our forwards. Josh Neville finished off a flowing move with a well taken goal. Both sets of forwards looked dangerous and were well able to score. Gearóid Murphy was winning a lot of ball and giving good quality ball to our forwards. Cathal Hogan, Shane Fletcher and Liam Seacy were all hurling well in the full forward line. At the other end of the field the Borrisoleigh forwards were causing problems for the Roscrea defence especially Billy Seymour, Jake Ryan and Adam Hogan who had switched from centre field. St. Josephs were two points to the good at half time and extended their lead after half time but Roscrea kept hurling and kept the gap to 5 points for most of the second half. Some brilliant saves by Mark Fanning from Gerry Kelly who had switched from centre back to full forward for the second half kept Roscrea in the game. After great pressure by forwards, Shane Fletcher scored two goals from ordinary 21 yard frees during the second half. Joseph Fogarty won some great ball also and scored a couple of points as well. In the end, time ran out for Roscrea who had a couple of late goal chances, one saved, one in the side netting. St. Josephs just deserved it on the day and won on a scoreline of 4-16 to 4-12. Panel- Dan Ryan, Graham Hogan, Shane Fletcher, Josh Neville, Colman Treacy, Thomas McCarthy, Jason Gilmartin, Owen Walsh, Stephen Carey, Liam Seacy, Jordan Donovan (Roscrea), Mark Fanning, Daniel O’Meara, David Jones, Paul Costello, Niall Maher, Joe Fogarty, Eoin Whyte, Cathal Hogan, Dylan Maher, Bob Kenny (Moneygall), Joe Ahern (Ballyskenach-Killavilla), Cillian Ryan, Matthew Fogarty, Cian Maher, Jack Bourke, Gearoid Sampson, Coley Cleary, Patrick Sammon (Shinrone), William Abbott, Gary Sheppard (Borris-in-Ossory), Gearoid Murphy (Anacurra Co. Wicklow).
PLC NEWS AT COLÁISTE PHOBAL ROS CRÉ
The Early Childhood Care and Education PLC Course went on an educational visit to Imaginosity and The Ark, Children’s Cultural Centre in Dublin recently. The purpose of the visit was to reinforce the theoretical learning which takes place throughout the year by offering a visual and hands-on experience to the learners. As both of these Centres are charities, the group donated funds raised from a recent PLC Bake Sale in the newly refurbished PLC canteen. A very enjoyable and informative day was enjoyed by all and Mary McGrath, PLC Coordinator, would like to thank their tutor, Paula Nolan, for organising the event.
