Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré 1-15
P.S. Glanmire, Cork 1-10
The Junior hurlers of Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré got off to a winning start with a hard-earned victory over a determined Glanmire side in New Inn on Tuesday last. Glanmire started the game much brighter than Roscrea hitting the first three points as many Coláiste Phobal players struggled with the pace of the game. As the half progressed we came more into the game with Cillian Ryan beginning to exhert an influence at centre back and Dillon Fitzgerald very good at left half back. Points from Liam Seacy and Joe Fogarty kept us in touch but we then conceeded a goal on twenty minutes. Coláiste Phobal finished the half well with good play from Gearóid Murphy, Joe Fogarty, Paul Costello, Matthew Fogarty and Coley Cleary. Luke Seacy was accurate from frees and Mark Fanning was now playing very well in goal. It was level pegging at half time with Coláiste Phobal 0-10 to 1-7. Facing the breeze in the second half Coláiste had it all to do but they showed great will to win and our backs were outstanding along with goal keeper Mark Fanning. Gearóid Sampson, Jack Bourke and Jack Kirwan in the full back line, Stephen Carey, Cillian Ryan and Dillon Fitzgerald all made major contributions. Fionn Ryan worked tirelessly at midfield and Cillian Sampson and Glenn Loughnane. Owen Tynan and Jack O’Brien all played well when introduced. A goal was always going to be important in this half and it was Roscrea who got it following a great move betwen Joe Fogarty and Gearóid Murphy which was well finished by Gearoid Murphy to give Coláiste a two point lead. Liam Seacy and Cillian Sampson added points and Mark Fanning made some telling saves to secure the win. Roscrea now face Rice College, Ennis in the next round.
