Senior Girls Soccer

On  28th of February our senior girls soccer team made the long journey to Greystones to play Saint David’s of Greystones.

The game kicked off at 11.30pm. It was a great start by both teams but we got a lot of great opportunities from Amy Carson-Hogan , Amber de Lewis  but unfortunately the Saint David’s goalkeeper prevented them from hitting the back of the net.

The pressure continued from Mya Steele  as she struck a shot but it clatters off the crossbar. The free kick won by Amber de Lewis ended up going out for a corner taken by Ella Carey and it ended up falling to Kayleigh Delaney  as she kicked and scored a great goal after 22 minutes into the first half.

Great defending by Áine Dooley and Sheoladh Cunningham-Dynan saw us out until the end of the first half finishing at 12.07pm.

Coláiste Phobal started strong in the second half with a great chance after 7 minutes and soon after Lucy Moloney was replaced by Aoife Moore. Ella won a free, puts it into the box and Amber flicked it over the keepers head into the back of the net to put Coláiste into the lead by  2 goals to 0.

We then made our second change with Leah Harney coming on for Amy Carson-Hogan. Great pressure continued by our forward line and then a great goal from Ella Carey from outside the box after 15 minutes made it 3-0 in the second half.

Great play by Mya put the ball across the box and then Laura scored a great goal in the 20th minute to make it 4-0 in the second half. We made another change with Mya Steele coming off for Lucy Hogan. More great pressure by Laura and she scored her second goal of the game to put us 5-0 up in the 36th minute. Final score was 5-0 and a great performance by all.

Well done girls.

Excitement is building here in Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré as we can confirm that the ‘Masita GAA All Ireland Post Primary Schools Niall McInerney Cup’ will take place on Friday 14th March at 1p.m in SETU Carlow. Our players have had busy run of it in the lead up to the final.

On Saturday the 1st of March, our Senior hurlers hit the road early on their journey to Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan’s 3G pitch to see off St Patrick’s of Dungiven, Derry with an impressive scoreline of 0-26 to 1-6 in the All-Ireland D Hurling Semi Final.

On Tuesday 4th March, our joint captains Sam Dooley and Gearoid Maher attended the Captain’s Call in Croke Park, accompanied by their managers Willie Smyth and Conor Sheedy.

We wish all 37 members of the panel, whose tremendous effort all year have been rewarded with a place in the All-Ireland final, the very best of luck on St. Patrick’s weekend. We are already so proud of what these players have achieved.

A big thank you has to go to the management team of Mr. Smyth and Mr. Sheedy who have worked tirelessly all year in preparing this team for their games.
