Irish Angus Beef Competition
Congratulations to our two TY groups who participated in the Irish Angus Beef competition to reach the National final.
Both groups completed their interviews last week to a panel from ABP, Kepak and The Irish Angus Beef Society and as a result, are two out of 46 groups who have been called forward to exhibit their project ideas at the next stage of the competition to a panel of Agri-food industry experts in Croke Park on the 7th of March, 2025.
Judges for this event will be drawn from industry experts across the Agri Food industry such as ABP, Kepak, Irish retailers (supermarket chains who sell Certified Irish Angus Beef), Teagasc, Bord Bia, Agriland, Farmers Journal etc.
The five groups who demonstrate the best understanding of their project will be announced as finalists and will be presented with 5 Angus calves at the National Ploughing Championships in September 2025.
We would like to thank the Irish Angus Beef Society for running this competition as our students have gained a greater understanding of the Beef Industry and the Certified Irish Angus Beef breed. They have also developed various skills such as IT, communication and teamwork.
Well done to all students involved and the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition.
Offaly Senior Camogie
We would like to congratulate two of our past students and schools camogie players Orlagh Phelan and Mairead Teehan who have been announced as captain and vice-captain for the Offaly Senior Camogie Team for 2025.
Orlagh Phelan will captain the team while Mairead Teehan and Amy Byrne will be Vice Captains.
We wish the girls the very best of luck with the year ahead!
Senior Boys Soccer
Our Senior Boys Soccer team had another great win in the Leinster League semi-final vs Curragh Community College. The game was played in poor conditions but that didn’t stop our boys from playing some good soccer. The game finished 6-0 to Coláiste. The subs played a crucial part in this win, contributing in both defence and also assisting for three of our goals. There has been some great scoring from our boys over the last numbers of games, scoring 20 goals in their last three games and hopefully this scoring threat can continue. Our defence has been excellent also only conceding 3 goals all year.
The boys now play St. Fergal’s College Rathdowney in the final which will be scheduled over the next few weeks.
Well done boys and the very best of luck in the final.

Tipperary ETB cookery competition
On Thurs 30th January 2025, two TY students, Aoibhe McAndrew and Ciara Crofton, along with Home Economics teacher, Ms. Loughnane travelled to Archerstown, Thurles for the Tipperary ETB Young Cooks Cookery Competition.
The girls made and presented a beautiful main course Butter Chicken dish and Mini Strawberry cheesecake dish for dessert using some locally sourced produce.
The girls weren’t successful in proceeding to the National competition but represented our school very well and diligently.
The girls received a certificate of participation, a goodie bag, apron (specifically designed for the Young Cooks competition by Fashion design students) and a hamper from Tipperary food producers. Well done to Ciara & Aoibhe, we are very proud of you at the Coláiste!
