FARM VISIT

Last Monday, Mr. Pollard and Mr. Smyth brought Fifth and Sixth-year Ag Science students on a farm visit. They started by going to Joe Mahers’ farm (a former pupil of Coláiste), where the students saw a rotary milking parlour, a zero grazer in operation, and had a discussion about the diet and breeding of cows.
The students then visited Gurteen Agricultural College where they received a guided tour by the College principal John Perry. This was also an extremely educational trip as John discussed all of the different enterprises the college has and all of the different courses the college has to offer. As you can see from the photos the students were also impressed by the tractors that were on show.
We then finished the day off with a visit to Dooleys Woolen Store where owner Kevin Dooley (former pupil) gave an extremely interesting talk on his business, the sheep industry, global markets and how important it is to buy premium Irish products.
It was an extremely informative day. We would like to say a big thank you to Joe, John and Kevin for having us and hopefully we will visit again.

County Post Primary Schools Cross Country Championships 2024

The Cross Country championships were held in Thurles Crokes on Thurs. 14th November.
For the first time in a number of years, Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré travelled with a team of 7 athletes in a variety of age groups. Sarah Halpin was first out in the minor girls 1200m. With over a 100 athletes in the race, Sarah ran with great determination and finished strong. Patrick Comerford ran his heart out in the junior boys 1500m, finishing in a good personal time. Next up was Joel Troy, Wajid Safi and Alex Andronic in the Inter boys 200m. Alex started strongly and got into a good position, which he maintained throughout the race. Wajid paced himself really well from start to finish and Joel’s training saw him finish the race well. On then to the senior girls 2000m where Hayley Moore ran a great race digging deep to cross the endline in a good personal time. Last up was Ramai Havatitye in the senior boys 3000m. Ramai ran an intelligent race, placing himself in 4th place for the majority of the race. He too dug deep to keep pace with the 3rd runner who changed pace several times throughout the race. Ramai was also aware of the runner close behind him in 5th place and then there was a wider gap to rest of the athletes. As they rounded the bend with 200m to go, Ramai accelerated and moved into 3rd place leaving his opponents little chance of catching him. Congratulations to Ramai on coming 3rd and to all the athletes who represented us in such a fantastic manner. Well done to all.
