Darkness into Light
Father Lorcan Kenny and some of the students from Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré who took part in ‘The Darkness into Light’ walk for Pieta House on Saturday 6th of May. The students raised vital funds which will help enormously with the provision of counselling services. Well done to all.
Coláiste Phobal win under 14 Rice Cup Shield
On Thursday 4th May 27 students from Coláiste Phobal played in the Rice Cup Shield. This is an annual hurling blitz for U14’s. This year the blitz took place in Tipperary town. In their first group game Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré were victorious against the Abbey C.B.S. from Tipperary town. They narrowly lost to Kilkenny CBS in the second group match. However, their points earned were sufficient to qualify them for the division 2 semi-final where they beat Kilkenny CBS 2. They then played Scoil Muire Co-Ed, Thurles in the final and beat them on a score line of 6.06 to 3.03. There were great performances throughout the day and it augers well for the future of hurling in Coláiste Phobal. Congratulations to all the players involved and well done to their trainers Mr. McCormack and Mr. Maher.

School Fun Day 2017
On Friday May 5th a school fun day took place in Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré. The purpose of the day was to promote a sense of wellbeing, encourage positive attitudes and to encourage an atmosphere of positivity around the school. All students took part in the day’s festivities which consisted of two distinct styles of activity.
Indoors there were a variety of inflatable challenges that aimed to test balance, coordination, speed and agility. These challenges were; The Wrecking Ball, Total Wipeout, The Eliminator, Dash and Grab and Last Man Standing. These activities allowed both students and staff to burn off some excess energy and have great fun while doing so.
Outdoors there were five more events for students to try their hand at. The outdoor activities included; Target Practice, Tug-of-war, Welly Toss, Novelty Relays and The Cube. Coupled with each of these activities were smaller fun based activities and challenges that were suitable for all students.
The day finished with the main event, The Teachers Vs The Students Soccer Match. The students dominated the opening half and got their reward just after half time when a cleverly worked free kick was curled home by Richard Baranya. This spurred the teachers into life and the pressure began to build. Chance after chance was created until finally, in added time, Mr McCormack managed to poke the ball into the net from close range following a scramble in
the students’ defence. As the students restarted the game the final whistle sounded and the game ended 1-1 after normal time. In search of a winner, the contest proceeded to penalties where the drama continued. The students took an early 2-0 lead, but failed to score form their 3 remaining penalties with the teachers managing to claw their way back into the shootout to get a draw, 2-2. This was the fairest possible outcome as both sides had chances to win, but could just have easily lost out during both normal time and the penalty shootout.
The day would not have been as successful without the help, co-operation and positive contributions of all the students in attendance. Well done to Mr Mc Cormack who along with other teachers organised a memorable day for both students and staff. It is hoped that a similar day will be organised as an annual tradition.
